Our day to day
Petit Molinet is open from the second week of September to the second week of July from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Most of the time is devoted to free play, but there are as well some suggested activities that the kids can join if they wish. In addition to playing, our aim is to provide a cosy environment in which do the activities of daily life such as eating, taking care of the personal hygiene and resting in a relaxed way.
During the week, children older than 3 and a half years leave the centre to expand their exploration of the neighbourhood. They make weekly visits to L’Onada Day Care Centre for the Elderly and to the Font Trobada vegetable garden (Montjuïc Park). Once a year we try to make a whole group trip.
All these activities are organized in a routine that establishes a rhythm, through which the group moves and breathes as a single being. It is a rhythm that is reviewed every year and is designed in base of the needs that we see in the group.
Welcome / Bon dia
From 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.
Petit Molinet encourages a relaxed arrival experience. From 9 to 9.40, there is time for each family to arrive at their own pace. At 9.40 we sing a couple of songs to say good morning to all of us, see who is there and who is not, greet the season of the year, announce something new … and around 10 a.m. games can start in earnest.
Free play and suggested activities
From 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
During the morning we usually set up two activities that the children can join if they wish. One activity is set up in the psychomotricity area, which is specifically designed for that day. The other, in the workshop space offers a specific material where children can experiment with fine motor and sensory activities (painting, cutting, gluing, moulding, transferring, etc.).
From 11:45 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Lunch time is organized in two shifts. At 11:45 the smallest children start eating after singing some songs. Meanwhile, the group of more than 3 and a half years children are offered an age appropriate activity or material to experiment with, and at 12:30 they enter to eat on the second shift.
Free play and naps
From 1:00 p.m. to 2:40 p.m.
After eating, some of the children will take a nap in the psychomotor room, which is magically transformed into a quiet space. Kids who do not sleep enjoy free play, which is usually has a more relaxed atmosphere, until story time.
From 2:50 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Just as we said “hello,” we said “goodbye” with a story. Teachers and children tell the stories, in a magical moment that allows us to honour the tradition of oral narration and to give and end to the day.
Hort de la Font Trobada
Petit Molinet has a garden plot in the Hort de la Fontrobada allotment. The whole journey up there, up on the Montjuïc slope, is an adventure. Once there, the children enjoy being outdoors and in touch with nature. They plant new seeds, water the plants, discover new paths … It is an all-day excursion.
L’Onada Day Care Centre for the Elderly
Three Tuesdays a month
We believe in the benefits of intergenerational contact, and that is why we visit the elderly of this day care centre. We do an activity with them and before there is also space for free play, in the huge patio and garden they have.
One Tuesday a month
We have made croissants in the local bread oven, known florists and musicians … we have visited the local fire station, the maritime museum … and we have drawn a map of Petit friendly establishments. The world is yet to be discovered and we try to visit it once a month.
